Our DEI policy encompasses the following key elements:
1. Review & Assessment. During planning meetings, a systematic review of DEI matters related to the continuing education offering are undertaken. Notes will be taken & revisited to be sure any issues identified are addressed.
2. Inclusive Content. Dr. Smith will ensure that the content presented by the instructors is applicable to diverse cultures, identities, and perspectives. As well, she will ensure that stereotypes and biases in any content are avoided & that this is also the case for seminar instructors.
3. Diverse Facilitators. Dr. Smith will strive to invite diverse facilitators to provide a range of perspectives. Dr. Smith will also ensure that facilitators are well-versed in DEI topics and are skilled at creating an inclusive learning environment.
4. Inclusive language. Dr. Smith will ensure that inclusive and respectful language is used throughout the seminar series, including sensitivity to pronoun usage & gender-neutral terms.
5. Commitment to ongoing improvement. Dr. Smith is committed to ongoing learning with respect to issues related to DEI. She will regularly update and review DEI policies and practices so that they remain aligned with best practices and evolving standards in this area.
6. Feedback & Accountability. Feedback is welcomed & encouraged with respect to DEI related matters. Dr. Smith will strive to be transparent in her efforts to promote DEI principles as related to this seminar series and in general.
